Chris is 12. in WV, 12 is the age where kids get to decide where they want to live. So, he came to live with us. He is the laziest student I have ever seen. We've had problems from the get go.....Which I'll continue in another thread so as not to muck this one up, but I'd be grateful for any and all advise.

Sat, December 17, 2005 - 7:25 PMI have been a step mom for 5 years. My step-children are 8,10,and 15. My children are 16 and almost 20...I am also going to be a grandma soon...The real issues with being a step-mom isn't so much the children but the ex-wife...

Sat, December 17, 2005 - 8:03 PMI've "officially" been a step-mom for just over 2 years, but I started parenting the kids 3 1/2 years ago when my husband left his wife for me... yes it sounds nasty and ugly, it wasn't how it sounds. My setp-children are 11, 14, 16 and my husband and I had a daughter together 15 months ago. Like you Shelley, most of my problems are not so much with the kids, but with the ex-wife. She seems to thrive on making my life miserable and putting my husband down at every turn. I think it helps her justify her bad parenting to do this- now she has become a friend to the kids instead of a parent and basically lets them do whatever they want. Lots of fun to deal with when they spend the weekends with us. :)
All I can say to any and all step-parents is "hang on, it's quite a ride"- good and bad.

Sat, October 6, 2007 - 4:58 PMI have been officially a stepmom for 3 and 1/2 years. Raising stepdaughter for 6 and 1/2 yrs. I also have a 22 yr old stepdaughter with 2 kids. They call me "Granma Etta". I LOVE it. I am 34 yrs old. My daughter is 10. My stepdaughters are 12 and 22, and my "grandchildren" are 6 and 2.
